DOMESTIC VIOLENCE & CRISIS INTERVENTION

At NASH, emphasis is placed on growth through relationships; believing that positive changes are effected through relationships and fostered by proximity and care. Our clients are nurtured by case managers, advised by caseworkers, and given support and guidance by mentors. When participants return to an old behavior, we work within our relationship milieu to help them understand the reasons behind their actions and to look at the consequences.

Once a resident is admitted, we work with the individual to make changes in his/her life - by saying good-bye to old ways, finding new living arrangements, securing new jobs, thinking new thoughts, and adopting new values. Taken singly, such moves are difficult for almost everyone; together, they would test the mettle of the best of us. For someone who is chronically unsure of him/herself, the NASH charge will initially be difficult for these individuals.  Yet, most will accept the challenge, though it may seem insurmountable, because many will realize that what we are offering is the kind of opportunity that does not come along often.

NASH challenges those we serve to think in the long-term - to realize that if they do not go to work today there may be no job tomorrow; that if they do not save today, there will not be enough for an apartment in a month; that if they skip classes today, there may be no degree in four years. We challenge those we serve to consider where they want to be in the future and help them to think rationally and to develop a plan for getting there. We hammer away at the importance of following through and fulfilling these responsibilities.
